The Apple River Fort State Historic Site is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Apple River Fort, the Black Hawk War, and the stories of the people on both sides of the war. As such, we offer several resources both at the site and online. Visitors, researchers, and educators are welcome to browse and use any resources listed here.   • Black Hawk War Veterans Database

    A database of Black Hawk War Veterans from the Illinois State Archives. The database can be searched online, or research requests may be made to the Illinois State Archives staff.

  • Sac and Fox Nation

    The Sac and Fox Nation in Oklahoma is the largest of three federally recognized tribes of Sauk and Meskwaki (Fox) Native American peoples. Also known as the Thakiwaki or Sa ki wa ki.

  • Meskwaki Nation

    The Meskwaki Nation of Tama, IA are Iowa's only federally recognized tribe.

  • Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri

    The Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri are comprised of descendants of roughly 200 Sauk and Fox who refused to move to a reservation in Oklahoma in 1869. Also known as Ne ma ha ha ki.
